Our cosy Shepherd’s cottage in the middle of nowhere!

Kath and I are currently tucked away in deepest rural Northumbria, close to lots of superb middle schools in and around Hexham. We are staying in a VERY remote cottage known as Shepherd’s Cottage, somewhere in the hills just off the A69 west of Hexham. The door to the cottage looks around 1000 years old and inside it has lots of nooks and crannies…perfect places for the ghost of the old shepherd to hide! I’m already getting some great ideas for spooky stories!

This morning we visited our old friends at Hexham Middle School and entertained around 240 Year 5’s and 6’s with our Bonebreaker and Krushmeister presentations…involving two very different, but equally bad guys all the same! The audience was more than enthusiastic to say the least and a great time was had by all. Tomorrow we return to enthuse their older brothers and sisters in Years 7 and 8, but with different books – Ten O’ Clock Caller, Dawn Demons and Moonwailer. I have some new Dawn Demons pics to project and they are VERY spooky. I can’t wait to see their reaction…

…Well, the reaction was great and I almost got a standing ovation at the end of the presentation. The book signing in the afternoon for the Year 5’s and 6’s went on forever (as usual) and our good friend, Ms Roff, had everything organised super-efficiently as usual.

The following morning found us at Ovingham Middle School; a school I had visited a good few years earlier and it was great to be back! Our audience was around 200 Year 5’s and 6’s – eager to absorb the Bonebreaker story as well as the Ten O’ Clock Caller short, spooky stories. Mr Bennett, the Headteacher, originates from Doncaster, close to our South Yorkshire base in Rotherham, so we had a lot in common and Kath and I were more than impressed that he made time to sit through just about all of our thoroughly enjoyable presentation. Can’t wait to get back to Ovingham to sign books…see you all soon.

In the afternoon we signed more books back at Hexham Middle School for the Year 7’s and 8’s and once again, a great response. We really do have many dedicated fans in this stunning area! Over to St Joseph’s tomorrow. Again, a school I visited a long time ago and I can’t wait to get back. Watch this space!
