James Holder has always regarded himself as my number one fan! He has good cause…he has been with me since the publication of my very first book (Mokee Joe is Coming!) and has remained a stalwart fan ever since. Here is his review of Scabbajack – he was the first to read it…of course!
‘Not many people can say that they still enjoy reading children’s fiction books at the age of 16, but I’m one of the few that can. However, they’re not just any children’s books. Ever since Peter J Murray and his wife visited my school five years ago, I have been sucked into the world of Hudson Brown, Billy Hardacre, and now, the newest protagonist, Zak Freeman. I still believe that Peter is one of the few authors who make such a strong impact on their readers and that they will remember the stories for years to come.
When I first received ‘Scabbajack’, I was instantly drawn to the incredible and fascinating cover designed by Paul Bryn Davies. It’s striking image really attracts the attention of the reader, as with all the covers of Peter’s books.
I started reading ‘Scabbajack’ in my living room, away from the noise of the outside world, and I was soon in awe of the story and could not put the book down. Peter J Murray’s use of spooky and humorous words make the reader feel scared, but safe, at the same time. For a 16 yr old to be spooked by this story means Peter has truly done a great job!
All the way through the book, Peter delivers non-stop action and suspense and it’s really interesting to discover how Zak and his sidekick, Charlie, deal with the demands of the boy ghost.
I’ve read all of Peter J Murray’s books and I have to say that ‘Scabbajack’ is my favourite so far. I am perhaps one of the best judges of this as I’ve read all of the books at least five times!
To finish of this review, I know that the main audience of Peter’s books are children aged around 10 to 12yrs, but for all of you guys out there reading this – I am a 16yr old boy and have just finished my GCSE’s and ‘Scabbajack’ was a book I’ll never forget. If you feel brave enough, I suggest you peer into the world of Zak Freeman and give this book a go…join him on his quest of bringing justice to the ‘Zombie-boy’….SCABBAJACK!!!

When do you think this Real Estate market will go back in a positive direction? Or is it still too early to tell? We are seeing a lot of housing foreclosures in Altamonte Springs Florida. What about you? Would love to get your feedback on this.

My daughter(age
has not slept through the night since Peter Murray visited her school 28th Nov. This book & presentation should come with a warning! Not suitable for young children who have vivid imaginations- got to the point where I am considering taking her to the doctors!!
